The UEFI Forum recently announced updates to the UEFI, PI, and ACPI specs. In a previous post, I mentioned how Nikolaj Schlej tweeted out a really nice summary of what changed in UEFI. He did the same for PI! Check out Nikolaj’s summary of the key updates to PI, below.
PI 1.6: a standard way to report used size of the volume - VOLUME_EXT_ENTRY_USED_SIZE structure. No need to store it in ZeroVector anymore.— Nikolaj Schlej (@NikolajSchlej) July 1, 2017
PI 1.6: new bit reserved in FFS file header (that was FFS_ATTRIB_RECOVERY long ago), so a lot of new file alignments are now possible. pic.twitter.com/PvAowvMMwB— Nikolaj Schlej (@NikolajSchlej) July 1, 2017
PI 1.6: new protocol that is used to register a callback for each call of MmiHandler(Un)Register(). Useful, but nice target for DMA attack. pic.twitter.com/mPs2JCs6Wo— Nikolaj Schlej (@NikolajSchlej) July 1, 2017
PI 1.6: adding support for RISC-V architecture for PEI. Good news indeed, we all need open architectures to be supported in industrial stds. pic.twitter.com/UcId75QsdI— Nikolaj Schlej (@NikolajSchlej) July 1, 2017
PI 1.6: new chapter about SPI bus layer. Finally a part of the PI standard. Big thanks to @vincentzimmer and UEFI Forum for adding it. pic.twitter.com/eAndXvsOND— Nikolaj Schlej (@NikolajSchlej) July 1, 2017
